Writing Hell: Vasily Grossman and Curzio Malaparte
Edwin Frank, the editor of NYRB Classics and an APS contributing editor, will moderate a discussion with filmmaker Frederick Wiseman; film and sound editor Walter Murch,whose translation and adaptation of Curzio Malaparte's Murdered appeared in APS 7; Yale historian and New York Review contributor Timothy Snyder; war correspondent Chris Hedges; and NYU's Chair of Italian Studies, Ruth Ben-Ghiat. The panel will be preceded by a screening of Frederick Wiseman's The Last Letter, a film based on Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate. The event is sponsored by The New York Institute for the Humanities at NYU and The Transregional Center for Democratic Studies at The New School.
